Special to the Rappahannock News

Contest winner Kevin Kidd's rendition of George WashingtonLooking to his favorite artist Picasso for inspiration, third grader Kevin Kidd's entry into Rappahannock County Library's first Art and Word Posters Contest was the Judges' choice for ‘Best of Show.'

Kevin, son of Heather and Kevin Kidd Sr. of Sperryville, submitted a colorful oil crayon rendition of George Washington as seen through the eyes of Picasso. Home schooled, Kevin, whose favorite painter is Picasso, enjoys painting and experimenting with colors. [Click on the picture to enlarge.]

Joining Kevin in the show whose theme “By George, It's Washington's Birthday” celebrated the recent federal holiday and Rappahannock County's direct connection with George Washington, were thirty Rappahannock students whose entries were submitted in four categories including: Art, Word, Essay, and Poetry.

Along with place ribbons all students were awarded participation ribbons.

A special ‘Local History' first prize was awarded to fourth grader Josh Jones whose pencil coloring and word description entry highlighted George Washington's surveying of what is now Washington, VA.

All of the artist's and writer's creative efforts will be on display at RCL through March 31 at RCL. Congratulations to the following participants:
